Just as the Les Paul Custom was the deluxe model of the Les Paul line, the Junior (also introducded in 1954) was the economy model. With its no-nonsense look, a single P-90 pickup, and initial price point of $49.50, the Junior was an instant sensation. In 1958, Gibson changed the Junior's body shape to a double cutaway, and changed the standard finish from Dark Sunburst to Cherry Red.
